Apple Cinnamon Crisp Pie

 
 

Perfect for any occasion, this Apple Cinnamon Crisp Pie is sure to delight. You simply have to try it!

Ingredients

For the pie

  • 1 cup wholewheat flour

  • 1/2 cup refined flour or all purpose flour

  • 1/4th cup yellow olive oil

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/3 cup water

For the filling

  • 3 apples (I used Golden Yellow)

  • 1/4 tsp cinammon powder

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp whole wheat flour

For the glaze

  • 3 tsp any vegan milk (Soya, Almond etc)

  • 2 tsp brown sugar

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder


Method

1) Sieve both the flours and add salt.

2) Mix the olive oil in the flour and with light fingers make it like crumbs.

3) Make a dough with soft fingers by mixing in 1/3 cup water slowly.

4) Make the filling by peeling and chopping apples. Add cinnamon, brown sugar and wheat flour. Mix well. Now add olive oil and mix and keep aside.

5) Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease the cake tin well from all sides.

6) Divide the dough into two parts. Take one part and roll it in a big round shape, bigger than your tin so when we put it in the cake tin it will cover the sides too.

7) Put the rolled dough in the cake tin, covering the sides too, forming a cup shape.

8) Now spread the filling mixture into it and press lightly with your fingers.

9) Now take the second part of the dough. Roll it again and cut long strips out of it. Decorate the apple covering with these strips. Cover in a criss cross design. Make sure to leave gaps in between the strips so as to help hot air escape when cooking. Use all the strips to cover the filling.

10) Take 3 tsp of vegan milk and brush it lightly on the criss cross design to give it a glaze after baking.

11) Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon all over. Put in your preheated oven to bake.

12) It will take about 50-60 min at 180°C for it to bake.

13) Check when it is golden in colour and then remove from the oven.

14) Let it cool for a bit and remove the cake tin.

15) Serve hot as a snack or serve with vanilla ice cream as a dessert.


Helpful Tips

  • Always handle the dough with light fingers.

  • Brown sugar will give a nice colour to the pie.

  • Adjust sweetness as per your apple brand.

  • A cake tin that opens from the bottom is easy to remove at the end.
